Or is it bollywood? It's the Hindi Hollywood in Mumbai that together with cinematic counterparts Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, and Malayalam form Indian cinema, producing more films and selling more tickets annually than any other cinema production hub in the world.

Shahrukh Khan, the most sought after actor in India today, once said, "Love stories are a way of life. And I do believe every story we tell is finally a love story." Indian cinema often represents the love ethos with astounding intensity of feeling. The expression of a vast range of emotions in a lavish style and a form that is always near the theatrical makes for entertainment enjoyed by all generations and people from all cultures. This is particularly evident in cultures throughout the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, UK, Canada, and the U.S.A.

The appeal of Bollywood as an entertainment phenomenon has never been restricted solely to the Indian subcontinent. While Bollywood films are traditionally released as Hindi films, the global appeal of Bollywood and Indian film in general has been facilitated to a significant extent by including the use of poetic Urdu and the growing presence of English in Bollywood film dialogues, songs and film soundtracks.
